Project
Background: |
In the
Mulative of Northern province, the proposed
area was under developed due to the conflict
for more than 3 decades. During the final
phase of the conflict in 2008-09 this area
was one of the main battlefields and the
most of the agro wells of the area were
shelled and fully or partly destroyed and
communities who lived there were forced to
leave. |

Although the
people were resettled after 2012, with
limited basic facilities, they are unable to
renovate these wells due to their economic
condition. These agro wells which is
proposed to be renovated were used by the
people in the area for their livelihood
income generation by using for agricultural
practices. The changing weather patterns in
the area most of the year the community is
facing serious water shortages for their
home garden agriculture practices and other
domestic purposes. |

The proposed
project is to renovate 15 Agro wells, which
have been damaged due to conflict to provide
water for day to day agriculture purpose of
50-75 families in Mankulam, Nithipuram,
Thunukai Road, Katkuary, A9 Road, New
Colony, Old Colony, Puthiruppu villages in
Mullaitivu District. |
